80 ATLANTIC
Located in the historical neighbourhood of Liberty Village, 80 Atlantic is Toronto's first new timber-frame building to be built in a generation.
In partnership with Hullmark and Universal Music Canada, the anchor tenants, Mondo Forma was commissioned to annually curate and produce a collaborative public art installation with different emerging Canadian artists. Each year, the site will showcase a new high-profile artwork that highlights the details of the site and focuses on merging traditional art with interactive tech.
2020 PROJECT
A neighbourhood is made up of all the little things that make it special; this site-specific installation is dedicated to all the special things in Liberty Village. Connecting to the natural world and the area's history, the installation will physically and conceptually build upon the foundations of the neighbourhood.
Our goal was to build a dynamic, community-driven artwork that celebrates the characteristics of the neighbourhood. This installation was built using painted 2D imagery and layered 3D wooden cut-outs to create a collage-like effect. Look closely and you’ll find pieces of architecture from Liberty Village's past and present, shapes pulled from nano-structures found in the area, and materials used in the development of 80 Atlantic.
